11th session of the Arab Climate Outlook Forum (ArabCOF)

11th session of the Arab Climate Outlook Forum (ArabCOF) and 8th session of the Gulf Cooperation Council Climate Outlook Forum (GCC-COF) took place virtually on 5 June 2023.

Regional Climate Outlook Forums (RCOFs)  are platforms that bring together climate experts with users and stakeholders’ representatives from countries of a climatologically homogeneous region to produce climate predictions for the target season.

The Arab Climate Outlook Forum (ArabCOF) was established in April 2017, its members meet twice a year in partnership with the World Meteorological Organization and the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers Concerned with Meteorology and Climate Affairs of the League of Arab States.

During this 11th session of the ArabCOF and 8th session of the GCC-COF, Arab country representatives presented current and anticipated conditions and their impact on climate over the Arab region; the NA-RCC Network RA-I: Seasonal Forecast over ARAB region; climate monitoring and assessment of the current state of climate; verification of previous ArabCOF climate outlooks; and the draft seasonal outlook for North Africa and GCC regions.

During the meeting also, ESCWA presented its work on SDS detection using remote sensing and dust index approach and the development of SDS dashboard for the Mashreq Region, and the UK-Met office presented updates on the WISER-MENA program which delivers transformation in the generation and use of co-produced weather and climate services in the MENA region to support decision making.

About Riccar


The central aim of this Regional Knowledge Hub is to provide access to information that can facilitate cooperation, coordination, dialogue and exchange among Arab States, organizations and stakeholder and to support awareness raising as well as regional networking and exchange on issues related to climate change and water resources in the region. Access to RICCAR assessment findings and associated datasets is being made available on this Regional Knowledge Hub, which is comprised of two open-access components: a website and a data portal. This online platform complements, and builds upon, the findings and processes already presented in the main report and its technical annex, as well as the series of publications that elaborate further on the work being pursued collectively under RICCAR.
