3rd Arab Climate Outlook Forum

ArabCOF 3 was held at the headquarters of the Egyptian Meteorological Authority in Cairo on 26-29 November 2018, in conjunction with other RCOFs, namely Mediterranean Climate Outlook Forum (MedCOF), South-East European Climate Outlook Forum (SEECOF), and Regional Climate Outlook Forum for Northern Africa (PRESANORD). The meeting aimed at preparing seasonal forecasts for the boreal winter, (December 2018 to February 2019) across the entire Mediterranean region, and for each of sub-regions the Arab, North Africa and South-East Europe. Seasonal forecasts prepared by the different forums were also compared to ensure their harmony in their common domains, with a view of monitoring and evaluating regional climate trends of the Arab region while benefiting from other forums in this regard. The forum also discussed user’s engagement from the environment, agriculture and water resources sectors to understand their needs and guide them on the use of climate information in the decision-making process and maximize the use of seasonal predictions to take appropriate actions. A number of international experts and representatives from different regional networks provided technical guidance and facilitated the development of seasonal outlooks for each of sub-regions, including the Arab region.

The central aim of this Regional Knowledge Hub is to provide access to information that can facilitate cooperation, coordination, dialogue and exchange among Arab States, organizations and stakeholder and to support awareness raising as well as regional networking and exchange on issues related to climate change and water resources in the region. Access to RICCAR assessment findings and associated datasets is being made available on this Regional Knowledge Hub, which is comprised of two open-access components: a website and a data portal. This online platform complements, and builds upon, the findings and processes already presented in the main report and its technical annex, as well as the series of publications that elaborate further on the work being pursued collectively under RICCAR.
