Fourth Arab Water Conference

The 4th Arab Water Conference on “Arab Water Security for Life, Development and Peace” is being organized by the State of Palestine, League of Arab States and the Arab Water Experts Network in Cairo, Egypt from the 30th of November to the 1st December 2022.

This conference aims at creating an active platform for stakeholders from the countries, organizations, decision-makers, experts, the private sector, and international organizations to discuss various aspects of Arab water security, work together to develop solutions for the most prominent challenges, and come up with recommendations capable to achieve and make progress in this aspect. The conference focuses on addressing water issues in the Arab region through four key dimensions “Life”, “Development” “Peace” and “Regional updates and changes”.

ESCWA is one of the partners in this conference and is giving a presentation on the Regional Climate Impacts on Water and Agriculture. The presentation focuses on the increasing vulnerability of water-dependent sectors across the Arab region as a result of climate change, increasing temperature and the changes in precipitation patterns. This has implications for water availability and water needed for crops, livestock and livelihoods.  It also presents challenges for water security in water scarce countries. The presentation also highlights that investments in adaptation and access to finance are needed for water and agriculture projects under a changing climate .
