Water and Migration: From Relief to Human Right Based Resilience

The UNESCO’s Regional Office for Egypt and Sudan and Liaison Office with the League of Arab States hosted a webinar on Water and Migration: From Relief to Human Right base Resilience.  The webinar was organized as the 4th Cairo Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) webinar and as a follow-up to discussions undertaken at the 4th Baghdad International Water Conference (Baghdad, April 2024).  UNESCO and ESCWA both highlighted the importance of evidence-based information to inform work on water and migration.  Specifically, ESCWA presented the RICCAR regional climate projections for the Arab and Mashreq regions and shared how they inform work on migration being carried out under the Adaptation Fund project on “Resilient water Solutions against Climate Change,” which addresses climate change impacts on water scarcity in refugee and host communities in Jordan and Lebanon. About Riccar

The central aim of this Regional Knowledge Hub is to provide access to information that can facilitate cooperation, coordination, dialogue and exchange among Arab States, organizations and stakeholder and to support awareness raising as well as regional networking and exchange on issues related to climate change and water resources in the region. Access to RICCAR assessment findings and associated datasets is being made available on this Regional Knowledge Hub, which is comprised of two open-access components: a website and a data portal. This online platform complements, and builds upon, the findings and processes already presented in the main report and its technical annex, as well as the series of publications that elaborate further on the work being pursued collectively under RICCAR.
