The workshop is organized by ESCWA from 26 to 28 March 2019 at the UN-House in Beirut, in collaboration with Arab Center for the Study of Arid and Dry Lands (ACSAD) of the League of Arab States, within the framework of RICCAR’s capacity building and institutional strengthening activities.
The workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of ESCWA Member States in the use of GIS and remote sensing fundamentals to inform climate change analysis and climate action at the regional, national and sub-national levels.The workshop is technical, interactive and practical in nature and aims to: Enhance the understand of the fundamentals of GIS and remote sensing; Provide practical knowledge of the use of GIS applications and remote sensing tools; Demonstrate how to access and view geospatial datasets and databases; Develop capacity to draw upon GIS and remote sensing tools and datasets to formulate, structure and oversee the conduct of climate change assessments.
The workshop is organized for government officials from Lebanon and the Syrian Arab Republic who have demonstrated responsibilities for conducting or overseeing climate-related analysis relevant to the water and agricultural sectors, which can be informed using geospatial tools, platforms or services available in their respective institutions. Policy advisors who are responsible for conducting or overseeing the development of climate change assessments for informing climate change policies, plans or projects in their respective institutions were also invited to participate in this technical workshop.
