The FAO Regional Office for Near East and North Africa is convening the Land and Water Days 2019 in collaboration with partner organizations at global, regional and country levels to review the progress made in addressing water scarcity in the region, foster exchange of knowledge and experience among countries and partners and chart the way forward taking into account the lessons learned, the new challenges to and opportunities for sustainable development.
ESCWA presented the outcomes of the climate change impact assessment on water resources and its associated socio-economic vulnerability in the Arab region which was undertaken under RICCAR.
The meeting key outcome is a joint declaration (Cairo Declaration 2019) paving the road to institutionalize the coordination mechanism between the water and agriculture sectors, with a roadmap for follow up and monitoring progress. Additionally, Ministers of Agriculture and Water Resources will endorse a directive approach for innovative financing mechanisms that allow for achieving integrated planning and implementation of inter-sectoral programs.
