Lead Author: ESCWA

Description

This technical note by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) aims to guide climate data users and agriculture stakeholders (such as farmers, intermediaries and agricultural workers, among others) in the Arab region on the applicability of climate data in the agriculture sector. It provides an overview of the importance and impact of the climate on the sector and the extent to which climate data can be used to reduce the negative impacts associated with climatic conditions (such as plant disease, crop damage and yield reduction). Furthermore, it addresses key considerations for making climate services more effective.

About Riccar

The central aim of this Regional Knowledge Hub is to provide access to information that can facilitate cooperation, coordination, dialogue and exchange among Arab States, organizations and stakeholder and to support awareness raising as well as regional networking and exchange on issues related to climate change and water resources in the region. Access to RICCAR assessment findings and associated datasets is being made available on this Regional Knowledge Hub, which is comprised of two open-access components: a website and a data portal. This online platform complements, and builds upon, the findings and processes already presented in the main report and its technical annex, as well as the series of publications that elaborate further on the work being pursued collectively under RICCAR.
